Most people claim to know and understand depression. Even go as far as using the word when they are feeling “down”. Depression is experienced differently for everyone. How we feel in our times of depression and how we learn to cope with our disorder is vastly different for everyone who experiences it. A lot of people don’t really know what it feels like to be depressed.
In these photographs, I set out to shoot what I have personally experienced and what others suffering from depression have described. Before looking at these photos set aside all preconceived ideas of what you think depression is. Looking at these photos with an open mind will help to better understand them.
My photographs in this series are both explanatory and interpretive. Allow these photos to speak to you and also interpret what they are trying to say and how it applies to your life. My work would fall in the expressionism category. I strive to portray emotions and have the viewer feel the power of those emotions.
